Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Utagawa Hiroshige’s Birth
Tokyo Traditional Woodblock Print Craft Association Restoration Project
Ukiyo-e, which flourished during the Edo period, is a cultural treasure of Japan, proudly recognized worldwide. It was created through the unique craftsmanship of traditional Japanese woodblock printing.
However, the aging of artisans and a serious lack of successors have become pressing issues in this field.
In response to this situation, the Tokyo Traditional Woodblock Print Craft Association has launched this restoration project to revive and preserve these vanishing techniques.
This restoration effort is supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the POLA Foundation for the Promotion of Traditional Japanese Culture, the Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Traditional Woodblock Printing, and member publishers of the association.
